I blame Sex and The City for my tulle skirt obsession – I would like a whole wardrobe of them! A grown up tutu looked so iconic on Carrie Bradshaw in those opening credits of the very fabulous TV series. And even in the follow up movies and the ‘And Just Like That’ programme, tulle skirts are still a key part of Carrie’s wardrobe. Tulle skirts are so beautiful and feminine which contrast against the harder edge of New York city life..

How to style a tulle skirt like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City 

In this blog, I’ll channel my inner Carrie and with three ways to style a white tulle skirt. I’ve taken inspiration from her fashion-forward looks that became the epitome of chic and whimsical fashion. These photos are all shot in London in Kensington and Notting Hill .

Carrie Bradshaw’s White Tulle Skirt from Opening Credits

Carrie Bradshaw is synonymous with high fashion, mixing high and low every day to create her own iconic looks. Her style has influenced street style for decades and so I wanted to channel that vibe with a tulle skirt. In the opening credits of the Sex and The City series, Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is walking down a street in New York where she gets splashed by a New York bus. She’s wearing a tiered white tulle skirt, a pink camisole top and a pair of strappy sandals.

To recreate this look and I went for a longer tulle white skirt from a brand called Kirsty Doyle where I added a white underskirt underneath as it is very voluminous but a little sheer. I finished off with a pink strappy top from H&M – I mean this bit is super easy! The sandals were a pair of gold glittery heeled Miu Miu heels which I’ve had for almost 20 years. Take a page from Carrie’s book and experiment with statement accessories like oversized flower brooches or heaps of pearls to add a touch of personality. I’m wearing my classic Chanel pearls and have a bunch of flowers from Notting Hill favourite Wild At Heart for a little extra fun.

The logo cashmere jumper with tulle skirt like Carrie Bradshaw

Taking inspiration (loosely) from the second Sex and The City movie with the tulle skirt and Dior logo top, I tried adding a Bella Freud cashmere knit with my tulle skirt. My Les Filles jumper in navy blue with white writing was loose enough to make the tulle skirt a little more casual. A pair of pointed suede court shoes in a soft pink from Gianvitto Rossi were my heels of choice with a classic black Chanel handbag. Keeping the colours a little more neutral, makes it all more elegant. Try swapping heels for trainers for a daytime style.

Embrace Classic Elegance à la Carrie: Monochrome – The simple white tee and tulle skirt with black accessories

This simple combo was a surprise favourite for me. For a timeless and sophisticated look, pair your Carrie Bradshaw tulle skirt with a simple white tee and contrasting black accessories. My T Shirt is from River Island and has exaggerated sleeves. My sandals are classic Valentino Rockstuds which are the most comfortable shoes ever. I finished off with my Chanel black bag. Consider tucking in your top to define your waistline and enhance your silhouette. These snaps were taken next to the gorgeous Wild At Heart flower shop in Notting Hill – a total Instagram hot spot.
